TNS RECORDS FANZINE
#3, Free, 5 ½” x 8 ½”, 20 pgs.
By CT Terry Wednesday, January 14 2009
TNS stands for That’s Not Skanking, which is a Manchester, England-based ska promotion company and record label. This zine covers the local ska/punk scene, with (surprise, surprise) a special focus on the bands on the TNS label. There are interviews, gig reviews, and album reviews. There’s also an anti-downloading rant, which is hard to take seriously, since it’s from someone who runs a record label and therefore profits from people not downloading music. The descriptive words tend to repeat. If a band has reggae breaks, they’re described as “chilled-out reggae parts.” I don’t know if that speaks to the writer’s lack of imagination or the sameness of the music that they’re covering. Still, these folks are doing good things for the bands in their area. –CT Terry (www.tnsrecords.co.uk)
