Harold’s Horrible Life
By Billy McCall, 131 pgs.

By Andy Conway
Friday, April 27 2012

Being as I consider my life to be “horrible,” I was immediately drawn into Billy McCall’s Harold’s Horrible Life by title alone. I found the name to be reminiscent of the classic children’s book, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” by Judith Viorst. Would the misfortune that befell Alexander on that fateful terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day in that particular tome be at all comparable to the horrible life of this Harold? I was more than willing to find out! As it turned out, I really enjoyed Harold’s Horrible Life. It’s a tale of seething hatred and murder. This is McCall’s first novel and he brings a darkness and real feeling of unease to his writing. I’m eager to read what he writes next. As far as whether or not Harold’s life is as horrible as Alexander’s no good, very bad day was terrible, horrible, you’ll just have to procure a copy and find out for yourself!
